
BLDC MACHINE
Firstly, design new magnetic circuit using series topology by implementing a flux barrier known as SS Series. It can overcome the drawback of parallel magnetic circuit in typical single phase BLDC motor where more flux of the permanent magnet can be used for torque production. Similarly to the parallel magnetic circuit in typical single phase BLDC motor configuration, the series magnetic circuit (SS Series) has two main parts which are the stator with coils and the rotor consists of permanent magnet. However, a flux barrier is introduced to channel flux flow into the stator side only. This kind of arrangement ensures improvement in the torque values as more magnetic energy of the permanent magnet is being used. In this kind of rotor structure, the flux barrier itself is actually an air as shown in Figure 1.
The typical single phase BLDC motor has parallel magnetic equivalent circuits which are on stator and rotor side. However, only magnetic circuit in the stator side is applicable since it consists of air gap where the force is produced in this region. In this magnetic circuit, it has several reluctance as the flux surpass from the permanent magnet to the stator and combing back to its origin point as shown in Figure 2
